Handing over

Our friend and long time surau going guy Sdr Fakhrurazi Abd Sayuti (and his family is always at the surau at most prayer times with him) is leaving, he has been transferred by his employer to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. We wish him (and his family) a good trip and a good service in Kota Kinabalu.

While with the surau he had been a very active member, the one to be relied upon for making arrangements for 'overseas' Ustaz.

Transition year dua (doa)

The transition between (30 Zulhijah) year 1429 Hijriah and (1 Muharram) 1430 Hijriah. In Muslim lunar calender the day transition is when Asar (sunset prayer time) ends and Maghrib (dusk prayer time) begins, unlike the Christian solar calender.
And at the end of that particular Hijriah year, and also at the beginning of the incoming Hijriah year, Muslims are encouraged to do dua, to thank Allah for the last year and to implore to Allah that the incoming year should be a better year (that is what that dua is all about) for self and family and for all Muslims.

Ustaz Osman Abdullah

Ustaz Osman Abdullah is from Penang (Pulau Pinang). He is one of our regular Ustaz, and he travels all the way from Penang to Kuala Lumpur to deliver tazkirah in certain mesjid in the Kuala Lumpur area.

In our surau, he is now using the kitab “Nasihat Ugama dan Wasiat Iman” by Imam Habib Abdullah Haddad as reference. The kitab is translated by Syed Ahmad Semait from Arabic to Malay. Its published by Pustaka Nasional Pte Ltd Singapura (edition 2008).

Ladies prayers section

I prayed my Zohor prayers at the new Mesjid at Petaling Jaya Old Town, Selangor, Malaysia today. Its a beautiful mesjid, maybe because its new, with new design and facilities.

However I observed that the ladies prayer section, at the back of the men's prayer hall, has no curtain or any enclosure at all except for a notice saying that its the ladies prayer section, the area enclosed by just rope enclosures. Its something very new (at least to me) in Malaysia. Normally the ladies prayer section are enclosed by movable wooden panels or opaque curtain (I am not sure whether such enclosure tradition is just an old Malaysian practice or a tradition by the Prophet PBUH).

Ustaz are also mortals.

Ustaz/es have to survive. And we 'listeners' need to help them. The knowledge they pass on to us 'listeners' are valueless, expensive and no where else can 'listeners' like us get them in the same environment as in Surau An-Naim.
And Ustaz/es have to survive. They are also mortals with happiness, sadness, family and children, and many also have schools to look after (in some cases, where they teach and sometinmes support) students. They give tazkirah at odd hours, and maybe without rest for a few days whilst travelling outstation.
Its their vocation, and for the (such beneficial) institution to survive we need to support them. Give them whatever we can (afford) and buy goods (books) from them when they exhibit them.
Give them all the moral and financial supports when and where we can.

The surau collects donations, and these are voluntarily given by the surau regulars by placing whatever cash each can afford in Chubb safe provided, by placing whatever donations through a slit made especially for the purpose on the top of the safe, one such safe on the verandah and another in the ladies section. Once upon a time bad hats used to 'fish' for such cash through the slit on top of the safe. So the Surau Committee decided to make the slit smaller to reduce such 'fishing'. Still some bad hats do the 'fishing', I supposed not so successfully now. They choose a good time to do the 'fishing', usually on a Friday afternoon after the Friday prayer (no Friday prayer is held in the surau, Fridays prayers are held at designated mosques only, the surau is very lonely at that time). But they soon got found out by the neighbouring residents. They are not apprehended, for fear of bodily harm to the one trying to apprehending them, but Police Reports are made.
We are lucky that we have lost only minor items, such as microphones and some shoes (during prayer times), but other than those we have been minimally disturbed.
We can not really stop such thievery as the surau is not guarded 24 hours a day. We just have to be aware of such happenings.

Qurban (Sacrifice)

Eid ulAdha is coming (8th Dec. 2008 by local rekoning). A time of 'sacrifice', in rememberence of Abraham sacrificing Ishmael in response to Allah's command.

As-Saaffat [37:102]
Then when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! do as thou art commanded: thou will find me if Allah so wills one practicing Patience and Constancy!"

So when they had both submitted (to Allah), and He had laid Him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice)

And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice:

At Surau An_Naim we are no different. We have also arranged for the sacrifice.

And the animals (cows are planned for) will be sacrificed on the Eid ulAdha after the Eid ulAdha prayers (most likely).

Surah Al-Kauther:
1. To thee have We granted the Fount (Of Abundance).
2. Therefore to thy Lord turn in Prayer and Sacrifice.
3. For he who hateth thee He will be cut off (from Future Hope).

I just learned/realised that a few of our surau going regulars are going to Mekah this Haj year to perform their Haj, some for the first time and some for second time or even more. Wishing them a safe journey, and may they return with 'Haji Mabrur' (a Haj recognised and awarded by Allah).

Solat Subuh

At the start of Solat Subuh at Surau An-Naim, Wangsa Maju, Kuala Lumpur on the Sunday morning of 16 Nov. 2008.

Just married.

One of our regulars at the surau got married today, in Batu Pahat, Johore (Malaysia).

Accompanied to the wedding by other surau regulars, all the way from Kuala Lumpur. They all left Kuala Lumpur after the Solat Subuh on 16 Nov. 2008. It was a long journey.

Where will we be buried.?

One of the problems of Wangsa Maju Muslim resident is the lack of burial ground close enough to the "Town". And I have been told that once upon a time any deceased Muslim resident of Wangsa Maju may be buried at Taman Ibukota Muslim Cemetary (estimated to be about 5 km west of Wangsa Maju), Kuala Lumpur. And I have been told now that that cemetery is now full.

One of my neighbours died about half a year ago, and he was buried at the Muslim Burial Ground at Taman Selaseh (estimated to be about 10 km west of Wangsa Maju), Kuala Lumpur. And actually I don’t even know where Taman Selasih Muslim Cemetary is, and among us very few know where the place is I presume (correctly?).

What will actually happens when one Muslim dies in Wangsa Maju? If one has a kampung (viullage in the rural area), probably some kind relatives or even the children may like one to be buried in the kampung. So somehow they will try to get the deceased back to the kampung. But how many people want to or can be buried in the original kampung now? Not many, maybe 1% (I am just guessing) of the total Muslim population of Wangsa Maju. Many have left the kampung for so long now even the people in the kampung do not know who the person is. And most probably all relatives have already left the kampung, of have all deceased making one a stranger in the kampung.

Burial ground is one problem, but the stark reality is what happens when one dies. If one is the 'surau going' or 'mosque (masjid) going' type then maybe some kind soul from the surau or the mosque (masjid) will try to do their level best to sort matters out, say call the nearest mosque, (in the current case of Wangsa Maju it’s the Seri Rampai Masjid, about 2 km west of Wangsa Maju, but the new mosque at Wngasa Maju just opened, about 1 km away, has not officialy say what Muslim burial services can it give) and have the deceased body prepared for burial. But if one is a stranger to the surau or the masjid then one’s relatives will be in the dark as to know what to do and who to turn to in such difficult times. Even now many do not know who to turn to when a death occurs to any Muslim in Wangsa Maju. Isn’t it time that the residents have some sort of written procedures as what to do when death occurs to any of the Muslim population of Wangsa Maju.?

This is a mere provocative thought which may have already occurred in someone’s minds of some of the Muslim population of Wangas Maju but nobody have written anything about it to express the thought and how the problem may be resolved. This generation is already in a dilemma, what will happen to the next generation when death occurs to any Muslim of Wangsa Maju?

Kuliah Subuh pagi ini yang sepatutnya diisi oleh Ustaz Shauki telah digantikan oleh seorang Ustaz lain. Saya sendiri tidak mengetahui siapa beliau dan saya jangka inilah kali pertama beliau menyampaikan kuliahnya di surau kita ini. Saya tidak sempat menanyakan siapa beliau langsung kepada beliau sendiri atau pun Sdr. Shahrudin kerana tergesa-gesa untuk suatu urusan lain.
Penyampaian beliau amat menarik, dan kita dapat rasakan ilmu beliau cukup tinggi. Usianya masih muda sebagaimana yang dinyatakan kepada kita iaitu 40 tahun.
Walau bagaimana pun satu perkara yang beliau bangkitkan khususnya tentang membolehkan kadha' solat untuk ibu bapa, saya dapati kurang dapat diterima. Begitu ramai ustaz-ustaz lain telah menerangkan tentang tidak bolehnya kadha' untuk diri sendiri, apatah lagi bagi orang lain, walaupun ibu bapa sendiri. Kita akan bincangkan dengan lebih lanjut berhubung persoalan ini di lain waktu, cuma renungilah sedikit ayat 39 Surah An-Najm (Surah ke-53) yang jelas-jelas menyatakan manusia itu tidak mendapat apa-apa kecuali apa yang diusahakan sendiri. Apa yang anak-anak boleh lakukan adalah mendoakan, memohonkan keampunan yang sebanyak-banyaknya untuk ibu bapanya, tetapi bukan melakukan sesuatu amalan atau ibadat dan niatkan pahalanya dihadiahkan kepada mereka. Kita bimbang perlakuan yang sedemikian boleh termasuk dalam perkara-perkara bid'ah. Na'uzubillah.

Kuliah Subuh & Maghrib Pada Ahad 11 Zulqaedah 1429H

Kitab “Majmuk Syarif” Diharamkan

Ustaz Dr. Azwira Abd. Aziz ketika menyampaikan Kuliah Subuhnya pada hari minggu tanggal 11 Zulqaedah 1429 H, telah memberikan sedikit kejutan kepada kita apabila menyatakan bahawa sebuah negeri di Malaysia ini, iaitu Perlis, telah mengeluarkan fatwa mengharamkan kitab kecil “Majmuk Syarif”. Sebenarnya saya sendiri telah lama kurang dapat menerima beberapa isi kandungan dalam kitab ini. Terlalu banyak dimuatkan hadis-hadis yang menyatakan tentang fadilat mengamalkan bacaan surah-surah tertentu atau ayat-ayat tertentu tanpa menyatakan sumber hadis-hadis berkenaan. Saya juga cuba meneliti siapa sebenarnya pengarang atau penyusun kitab ini, namun gagal menemuinya. Kitab itu yang ada pada saya, yang saya terima sebagai oleh-oleh menghadiri majlis walimatul’urus seorang teman suatu ketika dulu, hanya dinyatakan penerbitnya sahaja iaitu Cahaya Pertama.
Sebagai orang awam yang sangat cetek ilmu agamanya, saya ingin benar mendapatkan hujah-hujah atau alasan-alasan sehingga Perlis mengharamkannya. Sekiranya ada teman ahli Kariah Surau kita ini yang tahu mengenainya, atau memiliki kertas maklumat berhubung perkara ini, saya pohonkan dapatlah berkongsi maklumat berkenaan dengan rakan-rakan yang lain, termasuk saya. Wallahu A’lam.

Anjing & Babi Tidak Najis

Pada malamnya pula, kita dikejutkan oleh Ustaz Ramadan Fitri apabila dalam Kuliah Maghribnya melontarkan dua pendapat yang agak berselisihan dengan pegangan kebanyakan orang kita di negara ini, iaitu:

1. Bahawa anjing dan babi tidak najis, dan
2. Tiada Qada dalam solat; tiada apa yang disebut sebagai solat menghormati waktu; dalam keadaan darurat boleh solat dalam mobil sambil memandu dengan hanya menepuk dinding mobil dan melakukan tayamum dan tak perlu mengulangi solat itu (atau qada)..

Saya seronok mendengar penjelasan beliau kerana ia selari, dan seolah-olahnya meng”confirm”kan pendapat saya selama ini. Saya tidak berhajat untuk memanjangkan penulisan ini, tetapi sekiranya ada komen atau respons daripada teman-teman mengenainya dapatlah kita perpanjangkan perbincangannya.

An evening with Ustaz Musthafa Umar.

One of our most learned and popular Ustaz at our Surau is Ustaz Musthafa Umar. He had been with us for a very long time, years ago starting off with Tafsir, and he finished the whole of Surah Al-Baqarah over a period of about 5 years (?), coming to be with us almost every week, once a week on Tuesdays. He has written a book on that tafsir.

After bidding farewell to us earlier he has accepted our invitation to continue with us and has managed to come back to us once or twice a month to give us tazkirah. And we all gladly welcome him back to our fold.

This blog is just to record what an evening with Ustaz Musthafa Umar looks like.

As usual, he starts off with writing on the white board what ayat (of the Koraan) he wishes to discuss, translate, appreciate, tafsir that evening.

The tafsir and the appreciatation will last usually over a period of 1 hour after the Maghrib prayers to just after the time for the Isya (Isha) prayers which he usually then become the Imam.

Before the discussion and the appreciation usually he will start off with a doa (dua) and then he will translate the ayat according to the text from Arabic into Bahasa Malaysia.

And this will thyen will be followed up with detail of what the ayat wants and the ayat means, intersperse the detail with the other ayats in the Koraan or even with Hadiths (Prophet Muhammad PBUH traditions) to make his argument solid. The discussion may be very serious or can be very humourous, but at the end he gets through to the audience.

This will be followed with a short session of question and answers. And usually he answered those questions direct to the point with little room to manoeuvre by the questioner.

And he ends up with another doa (dua) to finish for the evening.

That ends our most enlightening evening.

Among our regular periodic activities at the surau is learning the tafsir of targetted ayat (verses) from the Koraan, between the Maghrib and Isha (Isya) prayers, for about 1 hour. Here an Ustaz is writing a Koraanic ayat (verse) on the white board, which then he will explain in great detail in that one hour what the tafsir is for the ayat, followed by a question and answer session.

ICT and Surau

With the availability of modern technology in communication equipment, many of the younger Ustaz (and not so young) are using these tools to strengthen their delivery of the subjects they lecture on. These modern Ustaz are IT savy and they take the opportunity to present their cases using these. Here one sees an Ustaz using a laptop with a projector, projecting the images and summary of his lecture on to a white board. In fact in many masjids (mosques) now they have a proper rollable fixed white canvas screen and a fixed projector ready for use. The Ustaz needs only to plug is laptop.

Ustaz nowadays are IT trained, or they take the trouble to learn IT tricks and many have their own homepage and e-mail addresses. Its such nowadays tom communicate with them.

Surau An Naim falls short in this area cuurrently, maybe because of financial constrained. Maybe also because of security of equipment. However soner or later Surau An Naim may need to consider equipping the surau with the technology.

We are coming out of our cocoons.

open house

This I thought is very interesting.
last night the Ustaz giving tazkirah at the surau brought this subject of open house. I thought its quite interesting as to what open house has now become. Is it pride that we have this open house? Or is it just to make friends and to brings friends together? Or is it something else like keeping up with the joneses?
Sometime you may see an open house affairs just about next door but because you have not been invited you dare not go. Instead you go to an open house a few km away, is this what open house is all about?
Is open house socially correct? Or is it religiously correct? Maybe just politically correct? Those are all open ended questions.

The car park

Our surau has got this wide car park which may even accommodate about 40 or 50 odd cars parked at the same time. That car park was ‘given’ because it was observed that during nights (and days) when tazkirah are held, cars for those who attend tend to be parked on the road edges, causing problems to the parking of cars for the nearby residents and this also causing traffic congestions. Some kind soul from the City Hall extended the car park to what it is today.

Recently an Ustaz giving a night tazkirah suggested that the surau becomes the activity centre for the Muslims who live nearby. Thus as an activity centre, the surau may be used as location for Muslim (Malay) weddings, where the car park may be used for a place where Muslims can erect tents to receive their wedding guests. Such a wide carpark may accommodate table and chairs for more than 500 guests at a same time. And in a Muslim (Malay) wedding the guests do not arrive at the same time, they come in trickle initially and then gets more dense and later on during the day they trickle in again, the other guests who came earlier have already left (in all cases).

Presently in an urban Muslim (Malay) weddings, tents may be erected in a street or minor road, sometime even closing or blocking the street, causing such inconvenience to road users. The Ustaz's suggestion has merits.

Facilities such as shower, toilets and prayer room are available.

Probably a small donation to the surau may be nice.

BAGHDAD – The U.N. refugee agency said Friday that it was rushing aid to thousands of Christians who fled a northern Iraqi city, while a prominent Shiite cleric appealed for unity as lawmakers consider a U.S.-Iraq security deal.
Some 13,000 Christians have been chased away by threats and extremist attacks in Mosul this month, said Ron Redmond, spokesman for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
That number is over half the community in a city where Christians have lived since the early days of the religion.
"Many left with little money and need help," Redmond told reporters in Geneva, where the agency is headquartered.
He recounted the story of a Christian nurse who told his agency the threats started months ago with phone calls, letters and messages left on doors.
Another woman said she fled when she heard of a Christian that was murdered.
"We were the hard core that never wanted to leave Iraq, even with the tense environment," the woman, who fled to Syria, was quoted by the agency as saying.
The agency has delivered relief supplies to over 1,700 Christian families now displaced in the north of the country, Redmond said. Most are living in churches, monasteries and the homes of relatives in nearby Christian villages and towns.
No group has claimed responsibility but Sunni extremists are believed to be behind the campaign, which is taking place despite U.S.-Iraqi operations aimed at routing insurgents from remaining strongholds north of the capital.
Attacks against Christians and other minorities had tapered off amid a drastic decline in overall violence nationwide, before picking up again this month.
In Baghdad, meanwhile, a hardline Shiite cleric and lawmaker called for rational debate on a draft U.S.-Iraqi security pact that would give the United States a legal basis for keeping its forces in Iraq for three more years.
Jalaluddin al-Saghir told worshippers that the government was still tinkering with the deal, which would also grant Iraq limited authority to try U.S. soldiers and contractors charged with serious crimes.
"The country is passing through a most critical stage," al-Saghir said. "The politicians should think about Iraq's interests. They should not seek to break the unity of Iraqi society."
Critics say the deal is an infringement on national sovereignty.
Al-Saghir's statements carry weight because he is a senior figure in the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council, which dominates the government with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's party. The council has called for changes to the deal.
There was however a different message in mosques frequented by anti-U.S. Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr's supporters.
Sheik Abdul-Hadi al-Mohammadawi, an aide to the Iran-based al-Sadr, praised the tens of thousands who marched through Baghdad last week calling for an end to the American presence in Iraq.
In a sermon at Kufa mosque, he said the proposed deal had numerous problems. "There is no balance in this pact because it is between a great state and a small one," al-Mohammadawi said.
The head of the Sadrist political commission, meanwhile, told a news conference in the Shiite holy city of Najaf his movement's criticism of the deal was not driven by Iran, as some have suggested.
Iran, which is also close to the Shiite parties who dominate Iraq's government, has repeatedly expressed its opposition to any deal allowing American forces to remain in Iraq.
"We have real and serious fears that the occupier seeks to divide Iraq," Lewa Smeism said, adding that there was opposition across the Iraqi political spectrum.
Senior U.S. defense officials have said the U.S. is still focusing its efforts on getting the agreement signed, even though its acceptance by Iraq's parliament is far from certain.
Washington prefers the new deal over an extension of the existing U.N. mandate that gives U.S. and coalition troops the authority to be in Iraq through the end of the year.

Pungutan Derma di Masjid/Surau & Status Masjid Vs Surau

I wish to refer to the Kuliah Maghrib given by YM Ustaz Ishak Din last night (23rd October 2008) in which an “argument” over the above subject broke up between YM Ustaz and me. I am not trying to justify my stand here, but I just would like to state that my behaviour was most unbecoming to the Ustaz of whom I have great respect for, and to the Jamaah. I am not trying to offer any excuses. It is just that I should not have behaved the way I did. Hereby I wish to ask forgiveness from everyone who was present. I felt now I was behaving like a spoilt brat.

2. On the subject of collection of alms/derma in masjid/surau, this is the first time I am hearing it is haram. We are seeing that in almost all masjid, especially on Fridays. Normally before the Imam goes up the mimbar to read the sermon boxes for alms (tabung derma masjid) are passed round saf by saf. In fact in this respect Ustaz Datuk Ismail Kamus had made a joke out of it, that when the box is about to reach someone, he will quickly stand up to sembahyang sunat! I would assume then that even to Datuk this practice is ok, certainly not haram. In fact in Masjid Jamik Pasir Putih Kelantan, immediately after Friday prayers, the Noja or Tok Siak will go round to everyone saf by saf carrying along an “uncang” to collect derma from the jamaah. Certainly there are a lot of Ustaz and Ulamaks there who would stop this practice if it is haram.

3. On the subject of status of surau and masjid, apart from several other ustazs who have given their opinion on this, I will just quote a paragraph from the book “Pedoman Shalat” written by the late Prof. Dr. T.M. Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy page 36:

“Juga pengertian mereka tentang ‘makna mesjid’, sangat berlainan dengan yang sebenarnya. Banyak berpaham bahwa yang dinamai mesjid, hanyalah tempat mendirikan Juma’at saja. Pada hal segala tempat yang ditasbielkan (diwaqafkan) untuk umum berjama’ah, dipandang dan dinamai ‘mesjid’. Karena itu tempat-tempat yang dinamai langgar atau surau tempat penduduk sesuatu kampung berjama’ah, dipandang mesjid”.

Ladies of the surau

The ladies of our surau are very active, they have their own religious classes, they follow the daily 5 times prayers (some do though the no. is small; by some traditions ladies are more encouraged to pray at home than in surau or masjid (mosque)exceptions being that when they attend lessons/classes, tazkirah or religious talks) and they attend the nightly tazkirah. And during the fasting month's night they crowd the whole of the ladies section.

The ladies section is behind the men's hall, appropriately curtained to maintain the allowed (and the need) degree of modesty.

And during the time of tazkirah the curtain is opened, wide if there are many ladies attending, the ladies to properly listening to the tazkirah and also to see in person who is giving the tazkirah. They are even allowed to ask questions on the subject of the tazkirah or on any other subject matter regarding Islam for which they have doubts about. And the ustaz giving the tazkirah usually seek questions from the ladies.

Perhaps some day, a lady may contribute articles in this blog, to tell us more of the ladies' views and activities.

About a month ago during a Q&A session at a Majlis Tazkirah Subuh (Kuliah Subuh) on the subject of “Ikhlas” (sincerity) I put up a question regarding Upah Haji. The Ustaz promptly replied positively that it is “sah” and could be practised by us Muslims. He went on further to say that it is in fact a good act especially when it is performed by our students there and it should be done “secara ikhlas”. At least we can help these students to get extra income to assist in their studies. These students have already performed the Haj previously, so they can perform for others – I can’t remember whether he mentioned only for those already dead or also for those still living. He quoted the nas from a Hadis Sahih, that a lady came to see Rasulullah and asked if she could perform the haj that the mother has “nazar” but died before she could do it. And Rasulullah SAW said she could. So based on that the practice of “Upah Haji” is considered sah.
Frankly I have my reservations regarding this. Firstly, on the subject of “ikhlas” – can anyone be really ikhlas in doing anything if he is paid to do it? On that reason alone I believe the performing of the haj has become null an void. In this respect I believe we should limit it to only the siblings who could do it, and that too if the parents had already the desire/niat/nazar to perform the haj. This to me is line with the Hadis which says when someone dies all his amalan is cut off except for 3, one of which is “anak-anak yang soleh yang mendoakan buatnya”.
Secondly, I am afraid the present practice of “upah haji” and even ‘umrah’ has indeed become commercialised. Just imagine it is advertised in newspapers and magazines and even on tree trunks!! Upah Haji is normally RM1,500 and Umarah RM300. It is as though “pahala” can be bought and sold! I am no religious scholar, but as a layman I think it is just not right!
Thirdly, for those who want to help our students in their studies, why must use this to help them. Where is the sincerity to help then?
Certainly in a Majlis Tazkirah such as the above it is not expected to be arguments and debates on any subject. So through this blog I am expressing my humble opinion with the hope that perhaps others could comment and correct me.


I came in rather late last night for the Kuliah Maghrib but I wish to express my humble short comment on the above subject (19th October 2008):
1. The Ustaz said “memang benar tiada suruhan/perintah daripada Rasulullah tentang membaca Usolli, tetapi Rasulullah juga tidak melarang”. I wish to point out on the tidak melarang. We are all aware that to practise any religious ritual (ibadah), there must be an instruction/example from Rasulullah SAW. Without that it is called bid’ah. And all bid’ah in religion is “on the wrong track/astray” (dhalalah/sesat), and all dhalalah is in hell fire. In other words, how can Rasulullah “melarang” when there was no happening then? In his time nobody performed the Usolli.
2. It is indeed a great sin to practise something (particularly religious ritual) which is not instructed by Rasulullah through Hadis or the Quran al-Karim. It is bid’ah. It may appear good but can actually be disastrous. We cannot perform any ‘ibadah according to our whims and fancies which we think is good and right. It must be from Rasulullah or our Creator. We know that it is due to bid’ah that people came to worship idol/berhala, and to worship Isa alaihissalam as son of God, or even as God himself!!
3. Back to Usolli, it is said by expressing it we can remind the hati. But in reality it is the reverse: it is through the hati that our lidah expresses it.
4. Then talking about niat itself. To me niat is our keikhlasan in performing anything. It is in fact explained by the hadis “Innamal ak malu binniat…..” regarding the man who hijrah for his lover. He did not put his niat (in the form as: “sahaja aku berhijrah ….” while doing the act. Likewise when we want to solat, we take wudhu, then face the Qiblat and takbir. The whole act is actually activated by the niat. Don’t tell me after taking wudhu and facing the Qiblat then we are going to dance! Agama is simple, and Rasulullah’s instructions are simple. Let us not make things difficult. Worse still by adding things which are bid’ah.

Ustaz Hj Abdullah Noh

I just want to put on record that Ustaz Hj Abdullah Noh has been almost the longest serving Imam for the 'surau'; he has been with the 'surau' from the first day - he may almost be one of the person instrumenting the existing of this 'surau'. In fact even before the existence of this surau he has been leading Muslim congregations/prayer gatherings and related Muslim prayers in private premises for the residence of Wangsa Maju, especially those from Section 5 and Section 6.

For that we wish to give our special and invaluable appreciation to him.

Old member, new restaurant.

One of the oldest, regular and most helpful member at the 'surau' has just opened a new business, a restaurant. Still no menu, no price list, in fact not much to show for except entuthiasm. That entuthiasm is one of the menu for success.

Where is he located? On the lane, behind Unhuat Electronics (behind Carrefour, Wangsa Maju, KL), in the same row of Bif Sentral (which I have written about earlier in Wangsa Maju eGroup).

The owner, look for yourself.

The food? As shown in the photo. From Trengganu mostly. But I already warned him not to make the food sweet, or they will not go down with the KL crowd.

He has the dining room, and upstairs he has the 'sitting down eating' concept.

while to go up, one has to leave one's shoes downstairs .......... he is still to make the gueests shoes rack.

Just married

Our Ustaz Ramadhan.

Our Ustaz Ramadhan had just got married recently to a lady from Johore. And he has graciously invited members of Surau An-Naim to come for a 'kenduri' (wedding feast virtually) at his house in Kulim, Kedah soon, a reception given for him and his newly wed bride.

And on Friday evening, 16 Oct. 2008, after the Isya (Isha) prayers, congregation at Surau An-Naim Wangsa Maju gave him a small 'makan' (an eat), a thank you gesture for him from all of us and also in celebration for him now he being a married man; and he being a regular Ustaz at our Surau. In fact between the Maghrib and Isya prayers tonight he was the one giving 'tazkirah'.

The Dua of Sheikh Muhammad Al Mohaisany

This Dua was made in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah After the taraweeh Salah, in Ramadhan, 1422 A.H, Sheikh was arrested by the taghout regime of Saudia Arabia immediately after he made the Du'a.

Time 0:00] Oh Allah, to whom belongs All Glory and Grandeur, Oh Allah The Omni-Potentent, The Supreme, The Greatest, The Highest We ask you of Your Glory and Power, And victory for the Mujahideen in your cause, Oh Allah remain beside them, and with them, Give them triumph; strenghthen them. Oh Allah unite their vision, Focus the aim of their weaponry, And consolidate their word.

[0:33] And O Allah, fix their hearts, O Allah handle, take care of their enemies, O Allah dissipate their congregation, And shatter their integrity, And weaken their strengths, And throw the fear in their hearts, O Allah, our fates are in your hands, And our affairs all return to You, And our conditions are not obscured from Your knowledge, To You do we raise our misery, And our sorrow, And our complaint, To You, and You alone, do we complain the injustice of the oppressors, And the cruelty of the "faajereen" (literaly: perpetrators of debauchery), And the wrath of the betraying criminals,
